Opened in 2014, Folk Cafe is the big sister of local favourite The Parlour. The light, airy entrance drops into a vaulted basement where local artists’ work is on display alongside a fairy-lit fig tree and a sideboard groaning with cakes. The food majors in big, fresh flavours: most notable are the ever-changing salad plates – perhaps a gleaming lentil salad vibrant with thick garlic dressing, or a light bowlful of beetroot and quinoa – and the sharp, tasty frittatas and tarts. Excellent brunch dishes include eggs benedict with a twist, French toast with bacon and maple syrup, and morning glory muffins.
